Passage: 2 Corinthians 1:23-2:4

Series: 2 Corinthians

Pastor Emilio continues his teaching through 2 Corinthians.

All true ministry is joy-producing ministry (2 Cor. 1.24)

1. A Joy Producing Ministry is not Heavy Handed

  • Paul was not afraid of church discipline: (2 Cor. 2.5-10; 12.20; 13.2)
  • Paul was not a lord but a servant: (1 Cor. 3.5; 2 Cor. 10.1-2)
  • Biblical joy is spiritual joy: (Neh. 8.10; Ps. 51.12), indomitable joy (1 Thess. 1.6; Jam. 1.2; 1 Pet. 1.8; Is. 49.13) lasting joy (John 16.20; 2 Cor. 6.10).
  • Paul practices affirmation for steadfastness: (2 Cor. 1.24b; Col. 2.1-5)

2. A Joy Producing Ministry Seeks for Mutual Joy

  • Paul was not content in their sorrow (2 Cor. 2.1-3)
  • Mutual Joy produces spiritual vitality in the church (2 Cor. 8.22; Eph. 4.15-16; Phil. 2.1-2)

3. A Joy Producing Ministry is Rooted in the Display of Holy Affection and Love

  • Sorrow and Love are not exclusive: (2 Cor. 7.8-10)
  • Paul had an intense love for the church: (1 Cor. 4.14-15; Gal. 4.19)
  • A pastor must be committed to the sanctification of his people: (Jer. 3.15; 23.4; 31.14; Prov. 10.21; Acts 20.28; John 21.15-17; Eph. 4.11-12; 1 Pet. 5.1-4)
