1) The Triune Unity of the Church

  • Trinity in close proximity and Context: (Ephesians 1.4-14, 17?; 2.18, 22; 3.14-17; 4.4-6; 5.18-20; cf. 2 Thess. 2.13; 1 Cor. 6.11, 17-20; 2 Cor. 13.14).

1.1) God Established us:(1 Cor. 1.8; Col. 2.7; Heb. 13.9). 

  • God established us for a Christ-centered life: (Eph. 4.15; 2 Pet. 3.18; Phil. 3.8, 10; John 14.1; John 6.48-51; 53-58).

1.2) God Anointed us: (1 John 2. 26-27)

  • OT Theology: priest (Ex. 28.41; Num. 3.3; Lev. 7.35; 8.12) or a prophet (1 Ki. 19.16) or king (1 Sam. 15.1; 16.1-3; 2 Sam. 2.4; 1 Ki. 1.39; 5.1; Ps. 89.20).
  • Jesus (Lk. 4.18), Paul (Acts 26.16-18), All Believers (1 John 2.27)

1.3) God Sealed us: (Eph. 1.13-14)

God's seal provides:

  • Authorship: (John 17.11-12; 2 Thess. 3.3; 1 Pet. 1.5; Jude 24)
  • Authenticity: (Gal. 5.16, 18, 25, 22-23)
  • Assurance: (Rom. 8.15-16)

1.4) God Gives us the Pledge of the Spirit:

  • The pledge is a deposit: (Rom. 8.23)
  • The pledge is a promise: (1 Pet. 1.9; Rom. 8.23; 2 Cor. 5.4)
  • The pledge is waiting for the full payment: (Rev. 21.4-5; Hab. 2.14)
